Flexible living accommodation

A linear system was mounted to floors and ceilings in domestic flats for sliding walls to give flexible living accommodation. The linear system needed to account for misalignment up to 60mm. A special floating system using plain bearings was developed, which was able to compensate for this. This system was ideal due to the fact it was low profile – so prevented any health and safety issues – and silent running. The rails could be joined together, thus allowing the systems to be as long as required. The bearing carriage moved smoothly over the small gaps between the rails. Ball bearing systems would never be able to achieve this. Flexible living accommodation Cost was a potential issue, but the price of the system came in well below budget. The plain bearing N27 system additionally needed no lubrication, so was maintenance free. This was a critical factor, as the system was operating in a domestic environment.
